Job summary

Darya, a restaurant by Freehand Hospitality in Halifax, seeks a Dishwasher/Kitchen Steward to support our kitchen team by keeping the area clean, organized, and compliant with safety and hygiene standards. The role emphasizes efficiency and a positive, can-do attitude in a fast-paced kitchen.

You will handle dishwashing, stock organization, and general maintenance, with a focus on teamwork, reliability, and physical stamina.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a dishwasher role or similar environment is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail is essential.
• Ability to take direction and stay calm under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
• Must be able to stand 100% of shift time and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Reliable transportation may be required for late shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operate dishwashers efficiently and safely.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, plates, and work areas per health standards.
• Sanitize dishwasher mats, carts, and racks.
• Receive, stock, and organize food and supply orders.
• Handle and store cleaning products safely.
• Maintain general dish area cleanliness including sweeping and mopping.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Chef de Cuisine, Darya is seeking a Dishwasher/Kitchen Steward to support our kitchen team by maintaining cleanliness and organization to ensure a smooth workflow in the kitchen, while adhering to safety and hygiene standards.

What you will be doing as a Kitchen Steward:

• Operating dishwashers efficiently;
• Ensuring that kitchen equipment, utensils, plates, and work areas are cleaned and sanitized to meet health and safety standards;
• Cleaning and sanitizing dishwasher mats, dish carts and dish racks;
• Responsible for receiving, stocking and organizing food and supply orders;
• Safely handling and storing cleaning products;
• General dish area maintenance which includes sweeping, mopping, organization and removal of garbage and compost;
• Such other related duties and responsibilities as may be required from time to time.

The person we are looking for has:

• Previous experience working in a dishwasher role or similar environment an asset
• Strong attention to detail;
• The ability to take direction and remain calm under pressure while working in a fast-paced environment;
• Organizational skills and an ability to multi-task;
• Able to spend 100% of the time standing;
• The ability to handle heavy lifting up 50 lbs;
• A reliable form of transportation, as public transportation may not be available late at night.
