Job summary

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) within Alberta Health Services, Edmonton, seeks a Clinical Genetics Technologist I to perform routine and complex cytogenetic testing and to manage accessioning and LIS entries. The role emphasizes FISH techniques and karyogram annotation, with responsibilities spanning QC, reporting, and education of trainees.

The position is part-time (0.80 FTE) at U of A Hospital, with a shift pattern including days and weekends. Posting ends 30-SEP-2026.

Qualifications

Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics.
Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Successful completion of the Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program or equivalent.
Clinical Cytogenetics/Molecular Genetics laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform and interpret routine and complex genetic testing using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.
Enter results into LIS, generate reports, and perform quality control and proficiency testing.
Maintain lab equipment and supplies, and assist in accreditation activities.
Train students and fellows; handle pre-analytical processes including accessioning.
