Job summary

FCC, a Canadian Crown corporation, is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst in Regina to monitor, investigate and respond to security events. This fixed-term 15-month role supports incident response, threat intelligence and continuous security improvement.

You’ll work with cyber security colleagues to analyze logs, identify threats and implement timely mitigations in a hybrid work environment. A bachelor’s degree and 4+ years in security are required.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, cyber security or related discipline.
• At least four years of cyber security experience or equivalent.
• Experience in cyber security operations or SOC environments.
• Knowledge of network security, threats, vulnerabilities and attack techniques.
• Experience with security monitoring tools to investigate alerts and events.
• Ability to analyze vulnerabilities and determine escalation paths.
• Strong communication to explain technical information clearly.

How you'll make an impact

FCC's cyber security team helps protect the systems, information and services that support Canadian agriculture and agri-food. As a Cyber Security Analyst, you'll play a key role in detecting and responding to cyber threats while contributing to incident response, threat intelligence and the continuous improvement of FCC's security capabilities.

In this role, you'll monitor security events, investigate potential threats, analyze logs and security telemetry, and help identify appropriate response actions. You'll work closely with cyber security colleagues and business partners to support timely detection, investigation and mitigation of security risks.

We're looking for an analytical thinker who can assess cyber security alerts, investigate unusual activity and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment - someone who's comfortable working through complex situations where the answer may not be immediately clear and has the confidence and judgment to elevate issues when additional expertise or response is needed.

What you'll do

• Monitor security alerts, logs, events and information feeds to identify potential threats or anomalous activity
• Investigate and analyze cyber security events to determine cause, impact and appropriate next steps
• Document and elevate incidents that require additional investigation, analysis or response
• Review log files and security telemetry to distinguish between benign activity and potential threats
• Support the administration, maintenance and testing of cyber defence systems and monitoring processes
• Contribute to threat intelligence, incident response, tool tuning, security hardening initiatives and continuous improvement activities that strengthen FCC's cyber security operations

What you'll bring to the team

Required qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, cyber security or a related discipline
• At least four years of related cyber security experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Experience in a cyber security operations, security operations centre or similar environment
• Knowledge of network security methodologies, cyber threats, vulnerabilities and common attack techniques
• Experience using security event correlation, monitoring or incident response tools to investigate alerts and events
• Ability to recognize, categorize and analyze vulnerabilities, anomalous activity and associated cyber security risks
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to work through varied scenarios and determine appropriate escalation paths
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information in clear, easy-to-understand language

Preferred qualifications:

• Exposure to one or more cyber security toolsets such as SIEM, EDR, DLP, IDS/IPS, firewalls, IAM or PAM solutions
• Experience working in an operational technology, IT support, system administration, networking, help desk, security operations or similar technical environment
• Familiarity with cyber security concepts such as incident response, threat intelligence, vulnerability management, cyber forensics or penetration testing principles
• Exposure to cloud technologies and security practices
• Related cyber security certifications, training, coursework or designations
