Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia's Service Nova Scotia department in Stellarton is seeking a Customer Service Representative, Transaction Services. In this permanent, full-time role you will complete transactions, issue identity documents and deliver quality service to both individuals and businesses.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, balance accounts, handle data entry with accuracy, and apply relevant policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years of experience in a fast-paced front-line customer service environment.
  • Equivalency may be considered with training and education.
  • Flexible team-player with strong customer service skills, and efficiency and accuracy.

  • Assets: bilingualism (French and English); knowledge of Service Nova Scotia programs; cash handling experience.

  • Issue driver’s licenses and Nova Scotia Identification cards.
  • Maintain security and control of public funds and inventory.
  • Enter and retrieve data from automated systems with confidentiality.

About Our Opportunity

As a Customer Service Representative, Transaction Services, you complete transactions and provide quality service to our individual and business customers.

Primary Accountabilities

Working in a fast paced, continuously evolving service delivery environment, you scrutinize records, process documents, and apply relevant legislation and policy. You also issue primary identity documents such as Driver’s Licenses and Nova Scotia Identification cards. Other key responsibilities include maintaining security/control of public funds and issuing and securing control of serial numbered and non-serial numbered inventory. While exercising a high degree of confidentiality, you accurately enter and retrieve data from automated systems. In your work, you interact with the general public, providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, you hold a minimum of four years of experience in a fast-paced, front line customer service environment. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. You are a flexible team-player with strong customer service skills, and you complete your work with efficiency and accuracy. In addition, you possess the following:

  • Experience in balancing accounts;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent judgment;
  • Demonstrated ability to diplomatically deal with the general public and to effectively manage difficult client engagements;
  • Strong data entry and computer skills;
  • A high aptitude to acquire, retain, organize and apply policies and procedures;
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills.

The following would be viewed as assets: knowledge of Service Nova Scotia programs, bilingualism (French and English), the ability to scrutinize and reconcile financial information and to detect and resolve discrepancies, and experience in cash handling.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:

  • A completed bachelor's degree
  • A completed 2-year Post-secondary diploma along with 2 years of related experience

Travel may be required for training and work purposes. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the employer.

Pay Grade: CL 18

Salary Range: $1,848.39- $2,068.11Bi-Weekly
