Job summary

Tigercat Industries is seeking a skilled paint technician for Cambridge, ON. This role covers surface preparation, applying primers and coatings, and maintaining spray equipment and paint booths.

You will read paint specs, mix to precise ratios, and ensure quality finishes on heavy equipment components. The position involves day and afternoon shifts, with a $3.00/hour shift premium for afternoons, and a safety-focused environment valuing teamwork and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship exposure or industrial painting experience is an asset.
  • Ability to stand long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different coatings.

Responsibilities

  • Use spray equipment to apply paint and other materials.
  • Prepare surfaces by sanding, scraping and grinding.
  • Read and follow electronic paint specifications and mix paint per ratios.
  • Adjust spray gun nozzles and paint mixes for proper flow and thickness.
  • Monitor for flaws and correct causes, sanding between coats.
  • Clean and disassemble sprayers and power equipment for maintenance.
  • Label, store and dispose of paint-related waste properly.
  • Maintain paint booth and related equipment and follow safety procedures.

Dedicated Day Shift

6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday

Dedicated Afternoon Shift

2:30pm - 1:00am, Monday - Thursday

Shift Premium

$3.00 per hour for afternoons

Job Duties
  • Use of spray equipment to apply paint and other materials
  • Clean and prep surfaces using processes such as sanding, scraping and grinding
  • Remove grease, dirt, paint, or rust in preparation for paint application, using abrasives, solvents, or sandblasters
  • Responsible for reading and reviewing the electronic paint specifications, apply primer, mix paint to the correct ratio as per paint specifications as well as apply paint based on the exact mil specifications required by our customers
  • Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
  • Monitor and identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correct their causes
  • Sand surfaces between coats of paint or primer to remove flaws and enhance adhesion for subsequent coats
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties
  • Ensure all paint related waste is properly labeled, stored and disposed of
  • Maintain paint booth and associated equipment to ensure proper working condition
  • Ensure all Health and Safety procedures are followed
  • Safely operate overhead cranes to move material to and from paint booths
Skills and Experience
  • Adapt to a changing work environment, competing demands, and able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or other unexpected events
  • Attention to detail to ensure precision in painting applications
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively and efficiently
  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, and bending
  • Understanding of different coatings and their properties
  • Familiarity with spray guns, sanders, and other industrial painting tools
Qualifications
  • Exposure to apprenticeship programs, classroom instruction or industrial painting experience an asset, or a willingness and desire to learn
