You will read drawings, solve on-site challenges, maintain safety and quality standards, and collaborate with the Project Manager to deliver premium craftsmanship on high-end projects.

Location: Vancouver, BC. Work is performed at project sites throughout Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, and surrounding communities.

Smithwood Builders is seeking an experienced Custom Home Carpenter to join our close-knit team. This position is ideal for a versatile carpenter who takes pride in detailed craftsmanship, enjoys solving construction challenges, and understands the care required when working in an occupied home or directly with homeowners. Depending on your strengths, your work may include framing, finishing, renovations, additions, and other aspects of custom residential construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality carpentry on custom homes and major residential renovations.
• Complete framing, finishing, installation, and general carpentry work according to project requirements and individual experience.
• Read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and construction details.
• Identify site challenges and contribute practical, constructive solutions.
• Maintain Smithwood's standards for workmanship, accuracy, cleanliness, and safety.
• Protect clients' homes and property while maintaining an organized work area.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with homeowners, coworkers, trade partners, and project leadership.
• Coordinate with the Project Manager and other team members to keep work progressing efficiently.
• Use materials responsibly and help minimize unnecessary waste.
• Support less-experienced team members by sharing knowledge and leading by example.

Qualifications

• At least five years of carpentry experience in custom residential construction.
• Previous custom-home or high-end residential renovation experience is required.
• Strong framing, finishing, or well-rounded general carpentry skills.
• Ability to produce accurate, detail-oriented work with limited supervision.
• Comfortable working on complex, highly customized projects.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
• Professional and respectful when interacting with homeowners.
• Reliable transportation to project sites throughout Greater Vancouver is required.
• Valid driver's licence and driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
• Commitment to safety, continuous learning, and doing the job properly.

Pay and Benefits

• Full-time, permanent employee position.
• Pay: $30 - $46 CAD per hour, based on relevant experience and demonstrated carpentry skills
