Job summary

Terris & Company General Contactors Ltd. is seeking a Senior Carpenter for high-end custom residential construction and renovations in the Vancouver area.

The candidate should master renovation work, read plans, organize the site, and deliver top-quality craftsmanship with minimal direction. The role involves all renovation tasks — from demolition and framing to finishing, siding, membranes, doors, and floor installations.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of construction experience on high-end custom residential projects.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead small crews (2–3 in-house) when required.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and structural drawings.
  • Own professional-grade tools and valid BC Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Complete work efficiently while maintaining exceptional quality.

Senior Carpenter - Custom Residential Construction and Renovations

We build with intent and engage in only a select number of custom build and renovation projects per year. This allows our team to focus only on the projects at hand and provide the attention to detail required to deliver the caliber of home that has come to define our reputation.

Our current and future projects include new high-end custom-built homes, Net-Zero projects, heritage restorations and renovations, along with a variety of large scale not-for-profit commercial work located primarily in the Vancouver area.

About the Role

We're looking for an exceptional hands-on Carpenter who has a comprehensive skill set who can complete tasks across all aspects of residential renovation projects.

This position is for someone who has spent years mastering the craft of renovation work and understands how to read plans, organize the site, prioritize the work to be completed, solve problems independently, and consistently deliver quality craftsmanship without needing direction.

This position includes all divisions of renovation work including selective demolition work, foundation forming, pouring and placing of concrete, framing additions, walls, stairs, hand cut roofs, decks etc. installing siding of various types, including the application of building wrap and waterproof membranes, setting windows and doors, the installation of finishing work of all types, including small drywall repairs, finish flooring installation, laying tile, cabinet installation and completing high-end finishing work.

We're Looking For Someone Who Can Confidently Perform Most or All of the Following

You should be highly competent in the following areas and able to perform the work described to a professional standard:

  • Concrete forming and pouring

  • Timber framing

  • Roofing
  • Exterior siding and cladding
  • Building envelope details, membrane application and waterproofing
  • Flashing – head sill and jamb
  • Soffits and fascia
  • Window installation
  • Exterior and interior doors
  • Drywall installation and repairs
  • Interior finishing
  • Hardwood, laminate and engineered flooring
  • Deck construction
  • Renovations
  • Heritage restoration
  • Deficiency corrections
  • Punch list completion

Required Experience

  • 12+ years of construction experience
  • Extensive experience on high-end custom residential projects & renovations
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable leading small crews when required (2 to 3 in-house crew members)
  • Strong understanding of the entire residential construction process
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions on site
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and structural drawings
  • Own professional-grade tools
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence and reliable transportation
