Job description

Finishing Touch Carpentry Ltd. is seeking an experienced Carpenter to work in Chilliwack and the Vancouver area.

Permanent; Full-time; 40 hours per week; $32.00 per hour. Applicant will be expected to travel to work sites across the greater Vancouver region.

Duties
  • Demonstrate skill in the safe operation of shop tools such as table saw, radial arm saw, power planer, power shaper, router, wood lathe, airless paint sprayer, large belt sander, band saw, hand saw and electric drill.
  • Prepare for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments, arranging work schedules with user departments and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Complete all required carpentry tasks according to blueprints and building plans.
  • Complete finishing tasks, including sanding, staining, polishing, wood coating and finishing, matching stain colours, repairing, and restyling fixtures and/or cabinets to ensure quality of work.
  • Join, trim, and construct cabinets using the necessary tools and machinery to complete the required cuts and components of the task.
  • Installation of cabinets on site.
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework and structures, as needed.
  • Install fixtures such as doors and moldings, as needed.
  • Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures and ensure that they are respected by all personnel and subcontractors.
  • Strive to continually improve through specific development plans.
  • Accept direction from the Lead Carpenter.
  • Coach and assist Carpenter Apprentices with all job tasks.
  • Practice good housekeeping discipline on the job to ensure a safe, non-cluttered workplace and to minimize cross contamination.
Requirements
  • Secondary school completion is required.
  • College Diploma or certification in a recognized construction/carpentry course is preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of previous experience in finishing carpentry is required.
  • Previous demonstrated experience with high-end kitchen cabinets and custom millwork is an asset.
  • A valid driver’s licence is required.
  • May be required to travel to job sites throughout the Lower Mainland.
  • English language ability is required.
