Job summary

Island Crisis Care Society is seeking a Custodian to perform cleaning, maintenance, safety, and reporting duties to support a safe and welcoming environment for clients. The role emphasizes care, integrity, and responsibility within a faith-informed community.

Responsibilities include cleaning, maintenance tasks, setup for functions, and ensuring security. Union membership is required to apply, with training opportunities through local associations and a strong emphasis on compassionate service.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 education required.
  • One (1) month recent related experience or equivalent.
  • First Aid with CPR-C, Naloxone Administration, WHMIS 2015, and Vulnerable People Criminal Record Review are required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, washes and disinfects building areas and common spaces.
  • Collects and disposes of refuse; maintains clean refuse areas.
  • Maintains and cleans parking lots and sidewalks; minor gardening tasks.
  • Performs minor maintenance on buildings, grounds, furniture, electrical fixtures and plumbing.
  • Sets up furniture for functions and meetings; maintains logs and inventories; orders janitorial supplies.
  • Secures the building by arming alarms and locking doors/windows; performs other duties as required.

Position Purpose

As a key member of the program team, theCustodian works diligently to carry out their duties (including cleaning,maintenance, safety & security, and reporting & documentation) in orderto create an environment that is conducive to providing quality care to thosein need. This contributes in ameaningful way to the ICCS mission to “Provide shelter and care to those inneed, reflecting of the love of God in loving one another.”

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Cleans, washes and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows,ceilings, floor, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds andwashrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wetmopping, shampooing, waxing, buffing, using various manual and power cleaningequipment.
  • 2. Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse areas;performs spot clean-ups as required.
  • 3. Maintains and cleans parking lots and sidewalks using hand andpowered brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snowand other refuse; performs minor gardening tasks such as mowing and trimminglawn, weeding, watering.
  • 4. In coordination with the Facilities Manager and Program Manager, performsminor maintenance on buildings, grounds, furniture, electrical fixtures andplumbing; such as unplugging sinks and toilets, replacing tap washers, lightbulbs.
  • 5. Sets up furniture for functions and meetings. Maintains variouslogs, key registers and other records; assists in taking inventory; orders andmaintains janitorial supplies.
  • 5. Secures the building by arming alarms, locking doors and windows, asrequired.
  • 6. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
  • Grade 10
Training and Experience
  • One (1) month recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Licenses/Certificates:
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Naloxone Administration
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Successful Criminal Record Review for Vulnerable people

  • Is able to understand and contribute to the therapeutic culture of ICCS within their own position and team.
  • Has a demonstrated ability to manage and balance role responsibilities and interpersonal dynamics in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
