Job summary

Main Street Project Inc. in Winnipeg is seeking a Home Care Worker to support residents in supportive housing, applying harm-reduction and housing-first approaches to prevent eviction and assist with life skills, goal setting and advocacy.

You will deliver a range of services to meet basic needs and ensure safety and well-being. You will work evenings and weekends at multiple locations, coordinating move-ins, conducting floor checks, assisting with medication management, and developing programs

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in human services, preferably with adults experiencing homelessness, mental health, and substance use.
  • Experience working in housing is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in addictions and mental health is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners.
  • Compassion for working with individuals who use substances and experience mental health issues.
  • Ability to work with a participant-centred care philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the effects of poverty and the determinants of health.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed Care, Anti-Oppressive, and Housing First philosophies in day-to-day support.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate move-ins for community members entering housing, adhering to protocols and collaborating with external partners.
  • Conduct regular floor checks to ensure safety and cleanliness of housing premises.
  • Assist with medication management, including storage, distribution, and documentation.
  • Develop and implement programming initiatives to enhance well-being and engagement of participants.
  • Provide comprehensive support in planning, problem-solving, and addressing immediate needs such as food, water, clothing, and essentials.
  • Offer non-judgmental support and connect participants with resources and services.
  • Respond to emergencies, assess, intervene, document incidents, and seek assistance as needed.
  • Ensure participants are informed about available resources and programs.
  • Uphold professional standards of care in interactions and service delivery.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with external partners to optimize support.
  • Maintain accurate confidential records (electronic and physical).
  • Collect and submit required agency statistics promptly and accurately.
  • Uphold cleanliness standards by following routine cleaning schedules during each shift.

Job Summary

Supportive housing services for residents experiencing homelessness at four locations. Work within harm‑reduction and housing‑first frameworks to assist with eviction prevention, life skills, goal setting and advocacy.   • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including assessing, intervening, documenting critical incidents, and seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Ensure that participants are well‑informed about available internal and external resources, services, and programs.
  • Uphold professional standards of care in all interactions and service delivery.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with external partners to optimize support for housing program participants.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic and physical records pertaining to program participants.
  • Collect and submit required agency statistics promptly and accurately.
  • Uphold cleanliness standards by following routine cleaning schedules for the program area during each shift.
Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding/experience in working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online databases.
  • Ability to work with individuals presenting challenging behaviours or experiencing crisis.
  • De‑escalation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to assess crisis and work in a crisis situation.
  • Current CPR, Basic First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certifications.
Conditions Of Employment
  • Ability to meet the physical demands required for the role, including being on your feet for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing cleaning duties (bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, crouching).
  • Exposure to biohazards, including but not limited to blood, bodily fluids, and syringes.
  • Ability to work with individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issues.
  • Ability to provide support in high‑intensity incidents, including medical emergencies and aggressive individuals.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where Indigenous ceremonies and practices, including smudging, are actively taking place.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check with a clear vulnerable sector search and a clear adult abuse registry check are required.
