Job Description
  • Perform a variety of routine cleaning and custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the Ministry Unit.
  • Complete regular facility upkeep, including emptying garbage and recycling receptacles, placing waste and recycling for collection, returning bins after collection, vacuuming carpeted areas, sweeping and washing floors, cleaning baseboards, windows, glass surfaces, ledges, offices, and furnishings. Utilize ladders safely when required.
  • Always maintain kitchen areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, fixtures, countertops, light switches, and door handles.
  • Restock washroom and custodial supplies and distribute materials as required.
  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, and other high-touch surfaces throughout the facility.
  • Move, arrange, dust, and clean furniture as required.
  • Inspect the facility and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repair requirements to the supervisor; coordinate with external service providers when directed.
  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, equipment, and consumables; request an order to purchase replacements when needed.
  • Prepare, maintain, and properly label cleaning solutions and spray bottles in accordance with WHMIS requirements.
  • Operate in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a regular part-time position based on 5.5 hours per week.

The performance of the job requires the ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. with no assistance from others, reach, bend, twist, and stoop frequently, work in a standing or sitting position for long periods; operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, reaching, occasional ladder work, requires fine motor skills.

The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.

Normal Hours of Work: Schedule may vary according to operational requirements; flexibility is required; may include afternoon and evening shifts, Monday through Friday and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Shifts could include weekends when special events take place. The supervisor will set the work schedule in consultation with the incumbent and may include shifts between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications
  • Completion of Secondary School.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • Up to 1 year of prior related experience including custodial and life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance: procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
