The Custodian maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and/or grounds in compliance with applicable standards on an on-call/casual basis. The incumbent makes minor repairs and provides access to the facility as required.
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties to the listed below:
Typical working location for this position is in the entire Cascade facility and property designated. The performance of the job requires mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills. The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds and applying over 40 lbs force. The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals, using general cleaning supplies, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and notifying supervisor to order supplies. Works under the following disagreeable conditions: Handle garbage Isolation and monotony Odors Dealing with angry people Verbal abuse Exposure to toxic chemicals Various weather conditions Washrooms (i.e. human waste) Multi-tasking May be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by others Exposure to infectious diseases Exposure to toxic chemicals Moving objects Sharp objects (e.g. needle pricking) Electrical Hazards Injury from lifting Falling on wet/slippery floors Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back, wrist).
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).

Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.74 with a maximum of $25.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
