Job description

The Cultural Support Worker will develop and implement cultural activities for Indigenous youth, adults and elders. Activity kits for groups 6 to 8, in-person or via Zoom depending on the everchanging challenges of COVID19.

Objectives

  • To build upon the skills and knowledge within the community of local and traditional Indigenous ways of
  • To facilitate increased access to culture and cultural knowledge among youth, adults and elders as a priority and from a perspective that promotes
  • To ensure the safe transmission of cultural knowledge of the Friendship

Areas of Responsibilities

  • To ensure the provision of Indigenous cultural teachings and knowledge within the program activities and to ensure safe and appropriate cultural practices.
  • To act as a cultural resource and support to facilitate and assist other presenters to offer activities.

Requirements

  • Human Services Training, a diploma or certificate
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history
  • Individual should have good communication skills and enjoy working with youth, adults and elders
  • Must be highly motivated, flexible, patient, understanding and personable
  • Computer skills are required; Microsoft Suite- Word and Outlook
  • A driver's license is required to be able to check in at the main office
  • It would be important to be able to work independently and in team-setting
  • Flexible Hours to fulfill part-time hours up to 20 hours per week
  • Must be able to submit to a criminal record check and a driver's abstract if applicable.
  • Ability to set up a home office and follow home protocols for safety.
