Job summary

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is seeking a Crime Analyst 2 for a 12-month term, on-site in Surrey. The role reports to the Criminal Analysis Manager and provides specialized research, statistical analysis, and intelligence support for investigations and crime reduction strategies.

The candidate will conduct data collection, profiling, mapping, and presentation of findings, along with training and collaboration with internal and external partners.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related discipline including coursework in applied research and statistics.
  • Specialty analytic training certificate.
  • Minimum of five years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, assembles, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data to support ongoing investigations.
  • Reviews police occurrence files to determine immediate crime problems and patterns of criminal activity.
  • Prepares suspect and victim profiles, suspect lists, maps, and other graphic representations of criminal activity.
  • Evaluates and validates intelligence information gathered from various sources.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive files, records, and documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with staff and external agencies.
  • Assists in the design and planning of projects relative to specific developments or detailed investigations.
  • Determines which research methodologies are to be utilized for each project.
  • Participates on project teams to monitor and identify the nature and scope of emerging and persistent crime problems, trends, socio-economic or demographic factors related to the problem and assess the probability of future crime problems and trends.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations for implementing strategies to address identified problems and trends. Provides statistical information and crime analysis.
  • Provides advice and assistance on crime analysis and research to members and outside agencies.
  • Provides training to members, staff and external agencies on methods and techniques of compilation of data.
  • Delivers presentations, briefings, and situation reports on crime trends and related matters.
  • Provides ongoing recommendations in regard to policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field of crime analysis.
  • Provides court testimony as required.
  • Operates various Surrey Police Service (SPS) operational computer systems.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Term Full Time Crime Analyst 2 position. Reporting to the Criminal Analysis Manager, the incumbent provides specialized research work involving the application of research techniques to support highly complex criminal investigative activities, operational programs, and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent provides statistical, tactical, and strategic crime analysis services and intelligence information to management. Considerable independence of judgment is exercised. The position is anticipated to begin in November 2026 and continue for approximately 12 months. The duration of the term may be shortened or extended based on operational needs.

Schedule / Hours of Work

This is an on-site position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The compensation range is $51.52 to $58.40 per hour (pay grade 29B) based on 2024 rates.
