Job summary

Midwest in Edmonton, Alberta, is seeking a Crew Chief to lead a field surveying crew on oil and gas projects. This field-based role involves travel, lodging, and subsistence provisions, with a strong emphasis on safety and client service.

You will perform oilfield surveys, oversee survey calculations, and coordinate with Project Managers and land surveyors to deliver high-quality results. Candidates should have Geomatics training or equivalent experience and be able to work outdoors in all

  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Ability to pass Drug & Alcohol testing as required.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform oilfield, pipeline construction, and integrity surveys.
  • Complete survey calculations and deliver client-ready results.

We are currently looking for a Crew Chief in our Edmonton location. Edmonton's capital city of Alberta, situated on the North Saskatchewan River, known for its natural scenery, food, history and facilities. Summary Of Responsibilities
  • Leading a crew in surveying tasks across all sectors/divisions within Midwest.
  • Performing predominantly oil & gas surveying, including:
  • Leading a crew performing oilfield, pipeline construction, and integrity surveys
  • Completion of survey calculations
  • Communication with clients, field representatives and site supervisors
  • Serving in a client-facing role, having regular interaction with Midwest clients, landowners and/or members of the public.
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Land Surveyors, and other Crew Chiefs to ensure quality client service.
  • Traveling as required by work assignments (field-based position)
  • Lodging costs covered by Midwest.
  • Reimbursement provided for subsistence expenses.
  • Adapting to varying work assignment lengths based on client requirements, job complexity and/or job location.
  • Working overtime as needed.
What You Offer
  • A valid driver’s license, free of major convictions as defined in jurisdictional traffic safety regulations (i.e., distracted driving, driving while impaired).
  • A diploma or degree in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience is 5+ years in the survey industry in a related position.
  • The ability to comply with Drug & Alcohol testing requirements as stipulated by client requirements and jurisdictional health and safety regulations.
  • Experience and proficiency with basic Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience and proficiency with the operation of all types of survey equipment (RTK GNSS, Total Stations, Levels, Laser Scanners).
  • Familiarity with all elements of the practice of surveying in the jurisdiction of application.
  • As an asset, demonstrated proficiency with line locating.
  • As an asset, but not required, a NavCanada RPAS Basic or Advanced UAV/Drone license.

Work Environment, Physical Effort & Schedule
Required
  • Walking on a variety of uneven ground, up to several kilometers (i.e., fields, pasture, construction sites, rugged natural terrain, etc.).
  • Lifting equipment and supplies between 20-35 kg (50-80 lbs.) and carrying equipment and supplies up to 20 kg (50 lbs).
  • Operating OHVs (Off-Highway Vehicles) in all weather conditions.
  • Utilizing hand tools, such as hammers, sledgehammers and jackhammers to install survey monumentation and markings.

Field based survey positions, including the Crew Chief position, require availability to travel as required by work assignment. Midwest will be responsible for costs associated with lodging, and the Crew Chief shall be reimbursed for subsistence costs. The length of work assignments varies based on client requirements, job complexity, and job location.
