Job description

Creative Design Specialist Full-time | Day Shift Onsite | Downtown Vancouver, BC Current Vacancy Compensation: $22-$24 per hour, based on experience

We are looking for an experienced Creative Design Specialist who combines strong graphic design skills with hands-on digital print production and prepress experience. This is a print-focused creative and technical position. You will design and modify customer artwork, prepare files for production, troubleshoot technical file issues, and ensure projects are properly prepared for both small- and large-format digital printing. Digital print production experience is a requirement. We are specifically looking for someone who understands both the creative and technical sides of producing printed materials. This is not a UI/UX, web design, animation, character creation, fashion design, or fine-art position. Candidates whose experience is primarily digital rather than in high-volume digital print production will not be the right fit.

What You'll Be Doing
Graphic Design for Print
  • Create and modify graphic designs specifically for digital print applications.
  • Develop layouts and artwork for materials such as brochures, flyers, business cards, booklets, posters, signage, banners, displays, packaging, labels, and other printed products.
  • Work with customer-supplied artwork and concepts to create attractive, functional designs that can be successfully produced using available printing and finishing methods.
  • Make revisions to existing customer artwork, including layout changes, typography, image adjustments, resizing, colour corrections, and other design modifications.
  • Apply strong knowledge of typography, composition, layout, colour, and visual hierarchy to print projects.
  • Design with the finished product in mind, considering size, substrate, printing method, finishing, installation, and production requirements.
  • Ensure creative concepts are not only visually effective but also technically achievable in a digital print-production environment.
  • Prepare final approved designs for production.
Prepress & File Preparation
  • Review and preflight customer-supplied artwork for production readiness.
  • Identify and correct issues involving bleeds, trim, image resolution, fonts, transparencies, overprints, colour spaces, dielines, finishing requirements, and other production elements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair files that are not properly prepared for print.
  • Prepare production-ready PDFs for small-format and large-format digital printing.
  • Perform imposition, nesting, step-and-repeat, resizing, file optimization, and other production-preparation tasks.
  • Create and manage specialized production elements such as dielines, white ink, varnish, spot colours, and specialty finishing layers.
  • Ensure files match job specifications before releasing work to production.
Colour & Print Production
  • Prepare artwork using CMYK, RGB, Pantone, spot colours, ICC profiles, and colour-managed workflows.
  • Make colour corrections and adjustments when required for reliable print reproduction.
  • Understand the differences between designing for a screen and designing and preparing artwork for professional print production.
  • Prepare files for small-format print, signage, displays, large-format graphics, packaging, labels, and specialty print applications.
  • Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot artwork and output issues.
Customer & Production Support
  • Review customer artwork, concepts, and project specifications.
  • Help customers translate their ideas into designs that can be successfully printed and finished.
  • Recommend practical design, file, substrate, and production solutions when required.
  • Participate in proofing, revisions, approvals, and project setup.
  • Work closely with print production and finishing teams to ensure projects move efficiently from design through prepress, production, finishing, and delivery.

We are specifically looking for candidates who have worked in a prepress, digital print, signage, wide-format, or similar print-production environment and understand the technical requirements involved in taking files from artwork to finished printed product. If you have these skills we would love to hear from you. Due to the volume of applications we receive, only candidates whose experience closely matches the requirements of this position will be contacted.
