Job summary

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking a qualified individual to join the Kenora Detachment. You will manage court case files, liaise with the court, and monitor progress through the system.

You will provide court security services and participate in escorting offenders, supporting community safety in Kenora. Mandatory requirements include passing a background and security check, a valid diploma, eligibility for Special Constable status, and Use of Force certification.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent), college diploma or university degree (or equivalent)
• Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and North West region is seeking a qualified individual to join our Kenora Detachment.

Note: During this selection process, candidates are required to undergo mandatory requirements of psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check. Candidates who have successfully completed the psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check will be invited to attend ten (10) weeks of in person training in Orillia. All mandatory requirements as listed must be completed prior to assignment to a team.

About Us:

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 6,400 uniformed officers, 2,900 civilian employees and 530 Auxiliary officers. Kenora is located in the south western corner of North West Region. Our detachment consists of 5 civilian members, 82 of uniformed officers and 12 of auxiliary volunteers. Within the City of Kenora, you can also find regional hubs for Forensic Identification Services, In-Service Training and the Canine Unit. Our detachment also hosts specialized crime teams including Regional Support Services and Major Crime Investigative Team.

Kenora OPP has a wide variety of patrol areas including the City of Kenora with a population of 15,500, The Township of Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls which is very busy in the peak summer season, to other remote communities such as Minaki and Reddit. With more waterways than land in this area, we can provide an opportunity for members to experience all aspects of policing including Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel enforcement. Our members enjoy spending their time patrolling trails, lakes and rivers.

With a population of 15,500 in Kenora members have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of calls for service including major crimes. The Trans-Canada Highway also runs through Kenora, providing plenty of opportunities for traffic investigations and highway interdiction.

Mandatory Requirements

• Proficiency in application software programs to prepare, update, and maintain records.
• Written communication skills to compose and prepare court-related documents.
• Organizational skills to coordinate and track documentation and case file arrangements.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with Judges, Crown Attorneys, defense lawyers, police officers, and the public.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to interact with prisoners to ensure cooperation during escort and court proceedings.

Problem Solving and Decision-Making

• Ability to assess documentation requirements and follow up on missing or incorrect paperwork.
• Initiative to identify and resolve issues, such as scheduling conflicts or prisoner attendance errors.
• Decision-making skills related to day-to-day case management and document processing.
