This Position reports to:
Country Holding Officer
The Country HSE Lead serves as the primary subject-matter expert on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) within the country or legal entity. This role acts as the main point of contact and delegated representative for the Country Holding Officer (CHO) on all HSE-related matters, including inquiries from regulators and authorities.
The Country HSE Lead is responsible for ensuring that each legal entity within the country complies with all applicable HSE legislation and regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role leads the HSE function locally, providing consulting and facilitation support to the CHO, and serves as a key link to ABB's global HSE network.
Responsibilities:
- Builds a strong foundation for the implementation of ABB Group policies and the HSE & Security Accountability Framework through collaboration between the CHO/Country Managing Director (CMD) and local teams within the area of oversight.
- Supports the CHO in the collection and preparation of fiduciary performance reports (Annual Social Report, Sustainability Performance Indicator (SPI).
- Supports the country management team in effectively managing fiduciary HSE responsibilities by assisting the CHO in the planning, execution, and follow-up of Country HSE & Security Board meetings and ensuring alignment with their outcomes.
- Assists the country management team understand their legal obligations, potential liabilities, and role-specific responsibilities in accordance with local HSE legislation and ABB's internal management requirements.
- Facilitates regular meetings with the local divisional HSE community to share latest regulatory development and provide a forum to share best practices.
- Assess and provide evidence to the CHO on whether the legal entity fulfills HSE and Security-related fiduciary duties & compliance.
- Ensures effective management of environmental risks through active leadership and coordination of the ABB Canada Environmental Steering Committee.
- Supports the country in managing legacy sites by serving as the subject-matter expert and liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
- Coordinates and supports all mandatory environmental reporting requirements for legal entities, including but not limited to PFAS and Plastic Registry submissions.
- Implements ABB policies and standards in their assigned area .
- Ensures that their own area of responsibility is audited.
- Ensures compliance with group management systems and any country-specific requirements by maintaining ABB Canada local Addendum.
Requirements:
- University degree in Health, Safety & Environmental or equivalent.
- 10 to 15 years' experience in HSE related function.
- Experience in Manufacturing and/or Construction industries.
- Deep knowledge of HSE legal requirements.
- Proven experience in implementing and managing HSE Management System (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001). Talent management.
