Job Family Group:

Legal Counsel, Technology, for BMO Financial Group is seeking an enthusiastic, creative attorney with in-house technology experience. The role involves supporting major initiatives to advance BMO as a digitally-enabled, future-ready bank within a diverse, collaborative team.

The ideal candidate will have experience with cutting-edge technologies, preferably within the financial services industry, providing strategic legal advice, negotiating business agreements, and minimizing legal risks.

This is a hybrid role requiring 2+ days in the office weekly.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Providing legal advice on software licensing, outsourcing, third-party vendor agreements, and technology-related matters.
  2. Supporting policies, procedures, risk management, and internal training related to technology.
  3. Drafting and negotiating various technology and vendor agreements.
  4. Advising stakeholders on legal issues and contract standards.
  5. Coordinating with experts on IP, data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance issues.
  6. Supporting third-party risk management and sourcing teams.
  7. Updating legal templates and know-how resources.
  8. Staying current on legal and regulatory developments in technology.
  9. Recommending strategic initiatives to senior leaders.
  10. Designing legal advice strategies to minimize issues.
  11. Acting as a subject matter expert for stakeholders.
  12. Handling complex, confidential issues with judgment.
  13. Negotiating resolutions and ensuring compliance.
  14. Building relationships with stakeholders and managing risks.
  15. Applying expertise to address ambiguous situations and implementing changes.
Qualifications:
  1. 3-7 years of legal practice with a focus on technology or equivalent experience.
  2. Law degree (LLB or JD) and licensed to practice in relevant jurisdiction.
  3. Experience in private practice, in-house, or regulatory bodies related to business regulation.
  4. Strong knowledge of legal, business, and regulatory environments.
  5. Excellent negotiation, communication, analytical, and collaboration skills.
  6. Ability to manage ambiguity and make data-driven decisions.
Compensation:

Salary range: $88,400 - $163,800, with variations based on location, experience, and qualifications. Compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and benefits such as health insurance, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans. More details are available at Total Rewards.
