Position Overview

Responsible for providing security services for the City of Vaughan, including but not limited to the protection and safety of people and the safeguarding of facility assets. This position will follow and enforce Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass to Property Act and City of Vaughan Policies and procedures, while maintaining confidentiality, exercising discretion, and ensuring a high level of quality and integrity.

Primarily located at the Security Desk and/or Security Office in City Hall, this position assists with maintaining security functions and the day-to-day operation of the Security Desk. Secondary roles may include being posted at other City of Vaughan facilities to perform security functions.

Qualifications and Experience
  1. Successful completion of a two (2) year College Diploma in security or law enforcement or suitable equivalent.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years' related experience in security and life safety is required.
  3. Maintain a Valid Ontario issued Security Guard License.
  4. Maintain a Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.
  5. Maintain a Standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification.
  6. Knowledge of current related security industry practices is required.
  7. Knowledge of and ability to follow the City’s Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Procedures, building Fire Safety Plans and Emergency Response Plans.
  8. Ability to read and interpret Federal and Provincial legislation: Criminal Code; Trespass to Property Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act; Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
  9. Efficiently uses computers and has experience using Microsoft Office related software, incident reporting software, access control software and CCTV software.
  10. Knowledge of Kantech Entrapass is considered an asset.
  11. Knowledge of exacqVison is considered an asset.
  12. Knowledge of KeyWatcher Touch, Simple K and WhosOnLocation is considered an asset.
  13. Ability to work well under pressure and enforce safety/ security regulations.
  14. Excellent oral/written communication skills, interpersonal, and public relations skills, coupled with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  15. A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  16. Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary in addition to a professional telephone manner.
  17. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
  18. Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills are essential.
  19. Proven problem solving, dispute resolution, prioritization and decision-making skills are required.
  20. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the City’s core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
  21. Valid “G” driver’s license in good standing and access to reliable vehicle for corporate use.
  22. Successful candidate(s) will be required to submit a clear Vulnerable Screening Criminal Record Check, prior to commencing employment.
  23. APP, CPP, PSP or CPTED certification is an asset.
  24. The ability to handle physical exertion such as:
    1. Operating a City of Vaughan patrol vehicle;
    2. Standing or walking for long periods in both indoor and outdoor conditions;
    3. Climbing stairs and ladders;
    4. Lifting and/or carrying objects of up to fifty (50) pounds;
    5. Running for short distances.
