Job summary

Magna Mining Inc. is seeking a Chief Mine Engineer to lead sustainable and reliable underground engineering, planning and design at Magna's Crean Hill Mine in Sudbury, ON.

You will oversee short- to long-term mine plans, ensure geotechnical, ventilation and hydrogeological integration, manage development projects, budgets, KPIs, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years in underground mine engineering.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field required.
  • PE designation in Ontario (P.Eng) required or eligible.
  • Experience with mine planning software and regulatory safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans.
  • Integrate geotechnical, ventilation, and hydrogeological factors into design.
  • Collaborate with geology and operations to align plans with models and targets.
  • Manage development projects from concept to execution.
  • Oversee scheduling, budgeting, and allocation of resources.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety controls.
  • Monitor KPIs and improve operation efficiency and development.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and other departments.
  • Provide technical support for daily mining activities.
  • Ensure all designs comply with regulatory and environmental standards.

Job Description

The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for sustainable and reliable mine engineering, planning and design to support safe and efficient underground operations at Magna Mining’s Crean Hill Mine.

  • Oversee the preparation of short, medium, and long-term mineplans.
  • Ensure integration of geotechnical, ventilation, andhydrogeological considerations into mine design.
  • Collaborate with geology and operations to ensure mine plansalign with resource models and production targets.
  • Manage mine development projects from concept to execution.
  • Oversee scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation for minedevelopment and related infrastructure.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to ensuresafe development.
  • Monitor and improve operational efficiency and developmentperformance against KPIs.
  • Interface with operations, maintenance, and otherdepartments to coordinate development and production.
  • Provide technical support for daily mining activities andtroubleshoot operational challenges.
  • Ensure all engineering designs and plans comply withregulatory and environmental standards.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on mine plans, costtracking, and project milestones.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, andregulatory agencies as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Bachelor’s degree inMining Engineering or related field.
  • ProfessionalEngineering designation in Ontario or eligibility to obtain P.Eng in Ontario isrequired.
  • 8 or more years of experiencein underground mine engineering.
  • 3 or more years in a leadershiprole.
  • Expertise in mineplanning software.
  • Effective leadership andcommunication skills.
  • Sound knowledge ofunderground mining methods (especially ramp access and lateral development).
  • Familiarity withregulatory frameworks and safety practices in underground mining.
  • Budgeting, cost control,and project management expertise.
