Job summary

Elk Valley Resources in Alberta is seeking a Coordinator, Environment to lead the execution of compliance and environmental programs. This role focuses on embedding continuous improvement and working with site teams and regulators to advance best practices.

You will manage multiple programs, supervise contractors and seasonal staff, and contribute to environmental standards through closure initiatives at EVR and Bullmoose mine.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Management, Engineering, or other
• 3–5 years’ experience in environmental management and monitoring, preference for regulatory compliance, environmental programs, and HSEC
• Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and best practices
• Proficient in GIS with experience in environmental data management, analysis and reporting
• Excellent project management with direction of multiple programs or projects
• Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities with practical problem solving
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently
• Multitask across priorities to complete projects
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Responsibilities

• Adhere to health and safety programs and policies
• Execute and manage regulatory compliance, environmental program execution and field monitoring
• Manage environmental programs such as Fisheries, Wildlife, Biomonitoring, and Surface Water Quality/Quantity monitoring
• Coordinate with external consultants and internal SMEs as needed
• Supervise field-based regulatory compliance team and seasonal staff; train seasonal staff
• Manage and support environmental management systems and corporate standards in closure
• Oversee internal and external reporting
• Maintain ongoing communication with site Safety and Operations teams on programs
• Identify risks, evaluate options, and implement solutions
• Develop annual objectives aligned with coal unit and site goals
• Develop and manage annual budgets to support objectives
• Perform other duties as assigned

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Lead, Environment, the Coordinator, Environment is responsible for the execution of compliance, and environmental programs. This role will also be responsible for embedding continuous improvement by utilizing and adapting best practices and moving those practices forward. There is potential opportunity to also support EVR’s other closure property, Bullmoose mine.

In this role you will:

• Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
• Execute and manage regulatory compliance, environment program execution and field compliance monitoring, including seasonal co-op employees
• Manage all current and new environmental programs activities, including, but not limited to, Fisheries, Wildlife, Biomonitoring, and Surface Water Quality and Quantity monitoring
• Management of external consultants and coloration with internal subject matter experts, as required
• Manage regulatory compliance program, including the supervision of field based regulatory compliance team and seasonal staff. Training of seasonal staff
• Manage and support environmental management systems (Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities, or HSEC), including integration of corporate standards in closure
• Manage, support and execute on internal and external reporting.
• Continual communication and engagement with site Safety and Operations teams in implementing environmental and compliance programs
• Identify risks, issues or challenges, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions
• Develop annual objectives in conjunction with overarching coal business unit objectives and in alignment with site-specific objectives
• Develop and manage annual budgets to support the completion of objectives
• Other duties as assigned or required

Requirements:

• Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Management, Engineering, or other
• Minimum three to five years’ experience in the field of environmental management and monitoring, with preference given to candidates with experience in regulatory compliance, environmental programs, and HSEC
• Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
• Proficient in geographic information systems with experience in environmental data management, analysis and reporting
• Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple programs, or projects
• Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work productively with nominal supervision and work independently
• Multi-tasking competing priorities to see projects to completion while addressing any challenges along the way
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Salary: $90,100 - $112,600 CAD/year
