Job description

The Retail Council of Canada (RCC) is the voice of the Canadian retail industry. Representing retailers of all sizes and sectors—from grocery and apparel to electronics and home goods—RCC advocates for a strong, innovative, and competitive retail sector. In Quebec, RCC plays a key role in liaising with public institutions, the media, and economic stakeholders to advance the interests of its members.

POSITION SUMMARY

RCC’s Quebec team is seeking a is curious, detail-oriented, and proactive coordinator to support the public affairs team by supporting implementation of communications strategies and enhancing RCC’s visibility and influence in Quebec. Reporting to the Vice President, Public Affairs, the successful candidate will contribute to content creation, outreach initiatives, and project coordination in collaboration with a small, passionate team.

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and implement internal and external communications activities.
  • Draft a range of written materials, including press releases, newsletters, web copy, social media posts, political briefs, and other advocacy-related documents.
  • Conduct research and monitor developments on political, regulatory, and industry files relevant to the retail sector.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of campaigns, events, and public positioning efforts.
  • Manage communications projects in collaboration with members and partners, ensuring timely delivery and strategic alignment.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency in all communications across platforms and audiences.
  • Support digital content development and online engagement strategies.
  • Contribute to team organization by tracking timelines and supporting project coordination.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in public relations, public affairs, strategic communications, or other related field.
  • Solid understanding of Quebec’s political landscape and government structures.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills in French (required).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Interest in the retail industry and public policy issues.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and proactive team player.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset given the national nature of many files.
  • Prior experience in a communications agency, PR firm, or political setting is a strong asset.
