Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is hiring a Cook at Muskoka Shores Community in Gravenhurst, ON. The role involves meal prep, following production sheets, and ensuring diets and portions meet plan. You’ll help maintain food quality and assist in training new staff, under a collective agreement rate of $23.28/hour.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificate.
• Experience cooking in institutional/healthcare, or hospitality settings.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and supplies for food prep.
• Prepare meals according to production sheets and recipes.
• Provide for prescribed diets at correct temperatures and portions.
• Monitor quality of food supplies and advise on actions.
• In absence of team leader, manage operations and requisitions.
• Assist in orientation and training of new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a Cook your typical day will impact in the following ways

• Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation


• Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu document as provided


• Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities


• Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises team leader of problems and makes recommendations about corrective action


• In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including enu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers


• Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members


• Performing other duties as assigned

Must Haves

• Grade 12 minimum education required


• A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate


• Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality


• Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence


• You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work permit


• You must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check applicable to the appropriate province

Additional Qualifications That Would Be Considered An Asset

• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
