Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Ottawa is seeking a Cook for a permanent part-time position. Shifts run 6am–2pm on Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, and Tuesday, totaling 30 hours biweekly.

You will prepare meals per production sheets, accommodate prescribed diets, and monitor food quality. You will support the team leader and contribute to a positive, patient-focused kitchen environment.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling and/or Smart Serve certificates.
  • Experience cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality settings.
  • Willingness to pass Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario) and Criminal Records Check.
  • Positive attitude and reliability to meet residence standards.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu documents.
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities.
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advis[ing] team leader of problems and making recommendations about corrective action.
  • In the absence of the team leader, assumes responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers.
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Must Haves
  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants
Bonus Points For Having
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify
