Job Summary

Reporting to the Culinary Manager, the Cook is responsible for the preparation and delivery of all foods for residents, guests, and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and/or oversee the preparation and delivery of all foods for residents, guests, and employees.
  2. Review menus and production sheets before preparing meals; ensure meals are prepared and served attractively.
  3. Ensure proper food handling techniques are followed.
  4. Complete daily temperature audits for refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms; record findings accordingly.
  5. Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic and specialty diets according to planned menus.
  6. Make menu substitutions as necessary and record them appropriately.
  7. Adhere to scheduled meal and nourishment service times.
  8. Follow daily production charts, standardized recipes, and menus within set budgets.
  9. Comply with provincial/municipal regulations and dietary policies.
  10. Participate in planning and preparing special occasion and theme meal days.
  11. Attend staff meetings, in-services, and training sessions.
  12. Respect and promote Resident Rights & Responsibilities.
  13. Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
  14. Follow health and safety legislation and safe job procedures.
  15. Work responsibly with vulnerable adults.
  16. Uphold the organization’s values related to ethics, morality, and integrity.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Red Seal Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
  • Experience with special and therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for most of the shift.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
  • Must provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one.
