Job summary

Extendicare Riverbend Place in Cambridge, Ontario is seeking a part-time/casual Cook to provide high-quality meals, nutrition, and resident-centered service in a clean, safe environment.

You will review menus, prepare foods to prescribed diets, supervise dietary aides, and support the dietary manager when needed. A Red Seal is preferred and Food Handler certificate is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Chef training and/or culinary management certificate or diploma as per OLTCH Act requirements.
  • Red Seal certification preferred.
  • Cook qualification certificates or post-secondary degrees in food/nutrition are acceptable.
  • Institutional/health care/restaurant cooking experience is valuable.
  • Food Handler's Certificate preferred.
  • Experience with older adult populations is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  • Prepares food and nourishments according to prescribed diets.
  • Maintains records and monitors quality and quantity of food.
  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food preparation and serving at mealtimes.
  • Assumes responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager.

Available opportunities include Part-Time/ Casual; Day/Evening.


What you’ll be doing


  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation.

  • Prepares food and nourishments in accordance with prescribed diets.

  • Maintains all required records and monitors quality and quantity of food.

  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities at mealtimes.

  • Assumes responsibility for routine departmental operations in the absence of the Dietary Manager.


What you bring


  • Chef training or culinary management certificate or diploma from a program that meets the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or

  • Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting the requirements of the OLTCH Act, or

  • Post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post-secondary degree in food and nutrition, or

  • Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience

  • “Red Seal” certification preferred

  • Current Food Handler`s Certificate preferred

  • Experience with an older adult population an asset

  • Strong customer and resident service skills.

  • Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset

  • Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills

  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset)
