Job summary

Good Shepherd seeks a Cook to prepare meals and snacks for Guests of our Emergency Shelter, Community Hot Meal Program, and Catering events. The role requires following health and safety guidelines and working under supervision to ensure nutritious, safe meals.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and preferably a 2-year Culinary Management/Food Services diploma or equivalent experience, with 3 years in professional kitchens and valid Food Handler's Certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is the minimum academic requirement.
• 2-year culinary management/food services diploma or equivalent experience is an asset.
• Minimum of 3 years' progressive culinary experience in professional kitchens.
• Valid Food Handler's Certification.
• Negative TB Test required before starting work.
• WHMIS or First-Aid training are assets.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and provide all meals and snacks for Guests at the Emergency Shelter, Community Hot Meal Program and Catering functions.
• Comply with Health and Safety programs and Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Maintain safe, hospitable, and non-judgmental environment while performing duties.

Job description

Hours of work: 80 hours every 2 weeks, weekday's evenings and some weekends

Rate of Pay: $22.82 - $24.68(Starting salary will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions)

How You Will Make an Impact

In a compassionate, hospitable and non-judgmental manner the Cook under supervision will be responsible for the preparation and provision of all meals and snacks for the Guests of our Emergency Shelter, Community Hot Meal Program and Catering functions.

Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

• Minimum Academic requirement is a High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2-year diploma from a recognized Culinary Management/Food Services program is a definite asset, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years' progressive culinary experience in professional kitchens
• A valid G-class drivers' license and clean abstract
• Valid Food Handler's Certification

• Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation
