Hard Rock Ottawa Hotel & Casino is seeking a part-time Cook to support daily kitchen operations in Ottawa, Ontario. The role involves food preparation, cooking, and presentation in line with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparation of foods, including washing, peeling, and slicing.
• Cleans work areas, and stores deliveries in their proper location.
• Maintain solid knowledge of all food products, sanitation standards, and policies/procedures and apply culinary techniques.
• Operates, maintains, and cleans deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven, steam table, flat top grill, and other equipment as instructed.
• Assists in lowering food cost and waste, properly label and date all products to ensure safekeeping and sanitation.
• Work as a team, helping all team members to complete activities that exceed guest expectations.
• Perform duties in accordance with company standards, policies, and guidelines.
• Perform additional duties as requested.

OVERVIEW

The Cook is responsible for supporting daily food service operations through the preparation, cooking, and presentation of menu items in accordance with established quality and safety standards. This role contributes to an efficient kitchen environment by maintaining cleanliness, following food handling procedures, and ensuring timely service. Working collaboratively with culinary and service teams, the Cook helps deliver a positive guest experience while supporting overall operational objectives and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for preparation of foods, including washing, peeling, and slicing.

• Cleans work areas, and stores deliveries in their proper location.

• Maintain solid knowledge of all food products, sanitation standards, and all policies/ procedures and is able to skillfully apply culinary techniques.

• Operates, maintains, and cleans deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven, steam table, flat top grill, and other equipment according to instructions.

• Assists in lowering food cost and waste, properly label and date all products to ensure safekeeping and sanitation.

• Work as a team, helping all team members to complete the required activities that ensure we blow away Guest expectations.

• Perform duties in accordance with company standards, policies, and guidelines.

• Perform additional duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE

• High school or equivalent education required

• Minimum of 2-year cooking experience

• Safe Food Handling certificate

• Standalone restaurant experience

• Ability to communicate clearly and speak, read, write and understand English

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties and responsibilities are typically performed in a highly regulated and controlled environment, but there will be times where you will need to be on the Casino Floor to complete job functions as outlined or pass through this area. On the Casino Floor, you may be exposed to casino-related environmental factors including, but not limited to, excessive noise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.

• Ability to walk distances.

• The employee must frequently lift/push/pull and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS
