Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a dedicated Cook for a Casual position at St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof, BC. You will prepare and cook meals, portion and serve items, and maintain clean kitchen areas under supervision in line with NH policies.

The role requires completion of a 12-month cooking program and strong communication and organizational skills to support a smooth kitchen operation within NH’s regional framework.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized 12-month cooking program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of this position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food items and portion, portioning and serving as required.
  • Wash and clean kitchen equipment, utensils and workstations.
  • Supervise and assign tasks to Food Service Workers as directed.

Job description

Position Summary

We are currently looking for a hard working and dedicated Cook to fill a Casual position at St. John Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, and working within the scope of Regional Northern Health (NH) Policies and Processes, the NH Regional Food Safety Plan and the NH Regional Food Sanitation Plan, this position performs duties related to the preparation and cooking of food items; portioning and serving food, washing and cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and designated cooking/workstations. Responsible for assigning tasks to designated Food Service Workers.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized 12-month program in cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of this position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
