  • 10 : 00 a.m. to 6 : 00 p.m.
  • 11 : 00 a.m. to 7 : 30 p.m.

4-5 shifts per week, including every other weekend

The Opportunity

Kingsbridge Retirement Community, located in Kingston, Ontario, is actively seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our growing team.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, the successful incumbent in the position of Cook will be responsible for preparing meals for our residents, using standardized recipes and prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare daily menu items following standardized recipes and prescribed diets utilizing appropriate food preparation methods, portion sizes, and garnishing and presentation of food to ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.
  • Ensure food is stored in appropriate containers, labeled, and rotated to ensure high standards of freshness, minimize waste, and maximize quality.
  • Utilize proper food handling techniques at all times.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of food supplies.
  • Follow established procedures for sanitation, safety, and quality assurance.
  • Daily cleaning and dishwashing duties.
  • Continuously follow our "good customer service" principle and ensure that these values are demonstrated in day to day practices.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year community college culinary course or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Food Handling Certificate preferred.
  • Experienced in large quantity food preparation, as well as cooking from "scratch".
  • Strong working knowledge of food services industry principles, methods, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Push, pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend, kneel, and work with arms raised on a regular basis.
  • Walk and stand on a variety of surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
Who You Are
  • Hold a certificate of completion in a two-year community college culinary course or equivalent.
  • Have previous experience preparing food in large quantities.
  • Computer Savvy.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in Health and Safety and Public Health regulations.
  • Able to interact effectively with team members, suppliers, residents and families.
  • Adhere to legislated and Company standards, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire.
  • Must be able to provide a record of immunization for TB test upon hire.
  • Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire.
