Job summary

The County of Lennox and Addington is hiring a temporary full-time Cook/Dietary Aide at The John M. Parrott Centre in Greater Napanee, Ontario.

You will support dietary services by preparing meals, following recipes and dietary guidelines, operating kitchen equipment safely, and ensuring HACCP compliance. Requires chef training or culinary management diploma, Safe Food Handler Certificate, and prior cook experience.

Qualifications

  • Chef training or culinary management diploma required.
  • Red Seal Designation preferred.
  • Secondary school graduation diploma (preferred) or equivalent.
  • Safe Food Handler Certificate must be renewed every five years.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Previous experience as a cook is required.
  • Previous experience as a food server in a dining room is an asset.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for the shift.
  • Understanding of long-term care health standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare menu items following recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
  • Portion food and manage leftovers according to HACCP and sanitation standards.
  • Assist in staffing decisions in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Serve meals to residents and guests and maintain dining areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and dining spaces.
  • Support dishwashing and nourishment cart setup.
  • Follow Ministry of Health Dietary Compliance Standards.
  • Collaborate with Dietary Services team to ensure quality service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Cook/Dietary Aide (Temporary Full-Time) # 2026-92

Hours of Work: Days, Evenings, & Weekends

up to 12 hours (as scheduled)

Salary:$25.63 to $29.36 per hour

Primary Location: The John M. Parrott Centre

Closing Date: September 28, 2026

Duration: up to six (6) months with possibility of extension

What you will do:

Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to enhance the well-being of the individuals and communities we serve. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Prepares menu items following recipes, menus, therapeutic diets, production sheets and departmental procedures
  • Operates commercial equipment in a safe manner
  • Portion food requirements for each RHA, Rotates Stock and plans utilization of leftover foods
  • Follows all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and sanitation practices to ensure food safety
  • Ability to make independent decisions in regards to menu changes and Dietary Aide staffing assignments in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Portion and serve correct meals to residents and guests
  • Responsible for setting and clearing tables and keeping the work areas, dining room and other areas in the department clean and sanitized
  • Assist in the dishwashing process and set up daily nourishment carts
  • Must be knowledgeable of and adhere to all Public Health and Ministry of Health Dietary Compliance Standards
  • Functions effectively and contributes positively to the Dietary Services Team
  • All other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

  • Must have completed Chef training or a culinary management diploma from a program that meets the standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. Preference will be given to those who possess a Red Seal Designation
  • Possesses a secondary school graduation diploma (preferred) or equivalent
  • Must possess a Safe Food Handler Certificate to be renewed every five years
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated expertise in quantity food production and be able to provide instruction to Dietary Aides as required
  • Previous experience as a cook is required
  • Previous experience as a food server in a dining room setting is an asset
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Requires understanding of the special needs of those who reside in long term care homes and the Ministry of Health Compliance Standards in this setting
  • Exhibit patience and tact in their daily tasks involving residents, guests and staff
  • Must be in good physical health, be clean and neat in appearance and have excellent personal hygiene
  • Satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Ability to lift up to Fifty (50) pounds as well as stand and walk for the entire shift
