Job summary

The H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is seeking a Dietary Aide for permanent part-time work in Picton, Ontario.

You will support food preparation, service, washing dishes and maintaining sanitation to ensure high resident satisfaction in a caring long-term care setting. The ideal candidate has healthcare or food service experience, knowledge of food safety and nutrition, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food service in health care, hospitality, or restaurant environments.
  • Knowledge related to food safety, sanitation, and nutrition.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Capable of working within legislated standards and guidelines.
  • Respect, tact, diplomacy, and good judgement in resident care.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (last 6 months).
  • Two-step tuberculin skin test within the last six months.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate is an asset.

Dietary Aide (Permanent, part-time, 2 positions) - Existing Vacancy

The H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is a non-profit long-term care facility located on the outskirts of Picton, Ontario in beautiful Prince Edward County. Our philosophy of care is one that recognizes the individuality of each resident and where all staff, family members and community partners are valued and respected for their contributions to resident care.

Our Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the permanent part-time position of Dietary Aide. Reporting to the Nutritional Supervisor, this position is responsible for a variety of routine duties related to food preparation, service, dishwashing, sanitation and safety to ensure continuous resident satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Experience in food service in health care, hospitality, or restaurant environments.
  • Knowledge related to food safety, sanitation, and nutrition.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Capable of working within legislated standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to exercise respect, tact, diplomacy, and good judgement in all matters relating to resident care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proof of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check dated within the last six months.
  • Proof of a two-step tuberculin skin test within the last six months.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate would be considered an asset.

The current rate of pay for this position is $22.72 to $23.71 per hour, plus 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation as per the Unifor Local 8300 Collective Agreement. Compensation also includes the option to join OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
