Job summary

Lifetimes Living Inc. in Tillsonburg, ON is seeking a Cook to prepare nutritious meals per the menu and supervise Dietary Aides, while keeping a safe, clean kitchen and honoring resident preferences.

The role reports to the Culinary Services Manager and requires knowledge of HACCP/WHMIS/OHS, food handling certification, and a commitment to senior care. Competitive wages and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Food handling certificate or equivalent; training can be provided.
  • Culinary designation/diploma is an asset or equivalent.
  • Experience in health care or hospitality settings is an asset.
  • Familiar with weights, measurements, recipe conversion, and portion control.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide.
  • Understanding HACCP, WHMIS, OHS, and sanitation standards.
  • Able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated empathy for the needs of seniors.
  • Able to maintain records and operate within policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plate meals and respect resident food preferences.
  • Make meals an experience, not a task, and keep the kitchen clean.
  • Supervise and direct Dietary Aides during food prep and service.
  • Work within budget, limit waste, and follow residence procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and proper records when needed.
  • Assist in FIFO processes of foods and supplies.
  • Collaborate with Food Services and other departments.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $19.22 To $19.22 Hourly

The Cook reports to the Culinary Services Manager and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

The starting wage rate is $19.22/hour.

This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of high-quality, nutritious meals according to the menu plan and the requirements of the RHA,
  • Plates all meals and ensures Resident food preferences are respected,
  • Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task,
  • Keeps the kitchen area and equipment clean,
  • Supervise and direct Dietary Aides during basic food preparation and meal service,
  • Work within a set budget, limit waste, and adhere to residence policies and procedures,
  • Maintains a safe working environment,
  • Maintain required records in the absence of the Food Service Manager, e.g., menu changes, purchase orders, delivery receipts, temperature checks,
  • Assists in the FIFO process of food and supply products,
  • Works collaboratively with all Food Services and other departments associates,
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Current certificate in food handling training from a local board of health or an agency of the board of health or has recently successfully completed an equivalent food handler training program, or training can be provided,
  • Culinary designation/diploma an asset or equivalent designation,
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset,
  • Familiar with weights and measurements, recipe conversion and portion control,
  • Familiar with Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and therapeutic diets,
  • Familiar with Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety, and Sanitation Code,
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned,
  • Organizational and time-management skills,
  • Individual and teamwork skills,
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors,
  • Must be free of communicable diseases,
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing,
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (w/ in last 6 months), recent TB test results (w/ in last 6 months) or Chest X-ray (w/ in last 1 yr), and two supervisory references are required.
