Job summary

Tla’amin Nation is seeking a casual on-call Cook to work at the Tla’amin Health and Child Development Resource Centre in British Columbia. The role includes following nutritional guidelines, preparing and serving meals, and maintaining cooking facility standards. Applicants should have at least a Grade 12 education, a current Food Safe certificate, and ideal candidates will have certification from a recognized Cooks Training Program. The position requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Position Summary

Job Status: Casual On Call

Job Title: Cook

Hours of Work: On-Call - 8:30 to 4:30

Work Site: Tla’amin Health and Child Development Resource Centre

Salary: $24.09 per hour

Reports to: Health Director or Designate

The successful applicant will be in good physical health. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

Key Responsibilities

• Follows a lunch menu plan in accordance with accepted nutritional guidelines such as Canada’s Food Guide for healthy eating and the individual dietary needs of the children.
• Prepares, cooks and serves lunch in accordance with safety and health standards and the approved menu plan.
• Oversees the operation of the cooking facilities and equipment and ensures their cleanliness and maintenance.
• Maintains an inventory of food and other related items.
• Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals and ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits.
• Daily: temperature checks of refrigerator and freezer.
• Weekly: deep cleaning and sanitizing stove, fridge, microwave.
• Monthly: freezer cleaning as required.
• Store food items following safety and health standards.
• Receive and deliver groceries to classrooms on Mondays.
• Performs other related duties as required by the manager.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Certification from a recognized Cooks Training Program preferred, or a combination of education, training, and experience in cooking.
• Current Food Safe certificate.
• Successful Criminal Record check.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
• Current Basic First Aid and CPR certification – or willingness to obtain.
• Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide and healthy eating nutritional requirements.
• Physically fit – able to stand for periods of time and lift/carry heavy food items.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong verbal, written, and reading skills.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both the Health Building and Child Development Resource Centre.

Additional Information

All employees working for Tla’amin Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
