Job summary

SSP Canada is hiring a Cook for locations at Ottawa International Airport. The role offers a full-time schedule with a weekend availability requirement. The position provides a comprehensive benefits package, RRSP matching, and an employee meal plan.

Candidates must have at least one year of food service experience, be able to follow recipes, read and speak English, and obtain a Transport Canada security clearance. The work environment is within a secure airport setting.

Qualifications

• One year minimum experience in a food service environment.
• Ability to follow basic recipes and operate grill, fryer and other kitchen equipment.
• Verbal and written communication is essential.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand English.
• Food handlers permit as required by law.
• Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long periods.
• Ability to obtain Transport Canada security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Follow recipes, check portions and garnish; present dishes as ordered.
• Ensure correct setup of the kitchen/workstation each shift; manage orders and stock of fresh, dry and frozen goods; condiments and supplies.
• Handle, store and rotate stored products properly.
• Set up, maintain and clean equipment and machines.
• Supply stocks, cut and store perishable goods daily to maintain quality.
• Complete opening, in-progress and closing control sheets if requested.
• Return utensils to proper places and keep storage areas clean and organized.
• Perform general cleaning to meet hygiene standards as directed by the manager.
• Take instructions from the manager and coordinate with them before leaving to ensure order.

Here are a few things you can expect as a Cook at SSP Canada:

• Follows the recipes, checks the portion of the recipes, the garnishes and present the dishes ordered.
• Have the correct and adequate set up in the kitchen / work station at each shift. This includes making orders, storing, storing all fresh, dry, frozen goods; condiments and supplies.
• Handle, store and rotate the stored products properly.
• In charge of setting up, regular maintenance, cleaning and proper functioning of assigned equipment and machines.
• In charge of the supply of stocks, cutting, and storage of perishable goods every day in order to maintain the quality of the products.
• Complete the control sheets for opening, in progress and closing if requested.
• Put all the utensils used during the shift in its place, clean and tidy up its work place as well as the storage areas (includes refrigerators, freezers), empty, clean and store the bins.
• Practice general and specific cleanings using the appropriate products as indicated by the manager in order to meet hygiene standards.
• Take the instructions from the manager when taking office and take stock with the manager before leaving to make sure everything is in order
