Job summary

Amenida Senior Community in Whitby, ON is seeking a part-time Cook to join our team for evening shifts. You will prepare and serve home-cooked meals for residents, plan and prep meals for the current and next day, and support kitchen operations under the Food Service Manager.

Candidates bring experience in busy kitchens, ability to handle large batches, a valid Food Handling Certificate, and a willingness to work weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• Experience cooking in a busy kitchen environment, preferably in senior care or institutional setting.
• Ability to prepare large-batch meals with attention to taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
• Valid Food Handling Certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve home-cooked meals for residents.
• Plan and prep meals for the current and following day.
• Assist the Food Service Manager with kitchen operations as needed.
• Ensure proper food presentation and portion control.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in all food prep areas per health regulations.
• Assist with lifting, bending, and standing for long periods as required.
• Clean kitchen equipment and work areas.
• Adhere to safety and food handling protocols at all times.
• Focus on preparing authentic Korean cuisine to meet residents' cultural and dietary preferences.

Hours: Evenings (30 hours biweekly)

Location: 101 Manning Road, Whitby, ON L1N 9M2

Pay: $18.52 - $20.28/hour

Your Day to Day:

As a Cook at Amenida Senior Community, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and serving home-cooked meals using fresh, real ingredients for a large group of residents.
• Planning and prepping meals for the current and following day.
• Assisting the Food Service Manager with kitchen operations as needed.
• Ensuring proper food presentation and portion control.
• Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in all food preparation areas in accordance with health regulations.
• Supporting kitchen tasks including lifting, bending, twisting, and standing for long periods.
• Cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas according to established standards.
• Adhering to safety and food handling protocols at all times.
• Focusing on preparing authentic Korean cuisine to meet the cultural and dietary preferences of residents.

What You Bring to the Table:

• Proven experience cooking in a busy kitchen environment, preferably in a senior care or institutional setting.
• Ability to prepare large-batch meals with attention to taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
• Valid Food Handling Certificate.
• Ability to lift, bend, and perform physical tasks related to food service.
• Positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check prior to hire, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening, in accordance with applicable provincial and federal regulations.
