Job summary

Blood Tribe Department of Health is seeking a Cook to prepare nutritious meals, including traditional foods, under the Nutrition Supervisor's guidance. You will ensure diets meet prescribed textures and restrictions while maintaining quality and safety.

Experience in healthcare cooking, a Grade 12 Diploma or Culinary program, and Food Safety handling are essential; Red Seal is preferred. Cultural understanding of Blackfoot communities is valued.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of cooking experience in a healthcare facility, hospital, retirement home, long-term care, or related setting.
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma and/or Graduate of recognized Culinary Skills program; Red Seal highly preferred.
  • Food Safety Handling certification is mandatory; CPR, First aid, WHMIS maintained.
  • Understanding of Blackfoot culture and language.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare nutritious meals, including traditional foods, under the Nutrition Supervisor.
  • Adhere to customized therapeutic diets and texture-modified food restrictions.
  • Maintain kitchen safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Supervisor and staff to ensure resident needs are met.

REPORTING TO:Nutrition Supervisor

SUMMARY OF WORK:
Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Cook prepares a variety of nutritious meals, including traditional foods, while strictly adhering to customized therapeutic diets and texture-modified food restrictions. Your precision directly impacts the Health and Safety of our Residents.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALITIES:
  • Experience: 1-3 years of cooking experience in a healthcare facility (hospital, retirement home, or long-term care setting), restaurant, or day care.
  • Education: Minimum Grade 12 Diploma and/or Graduate of recognized Culinary Skills program, Chef training, Culinary Arts Diploma. A Red Seal Designation is highly preferred.
  • Certification:
    • Food Safety Handing is Mandatory
    • Maintain CPR, First aid, WHIMS
  • Understanding of the Blackfoot Culture and Language
SALARY RANGE:
  • In accordance with the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. Salary Grid.
