Qualifications

We are looking for a part-time cook to join our team. This position is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., including every other weekend.

About the Role
  • Responsible for assisting in the food production operations of the Residence by demonstrating skill, efficiency and diligence in the performance of all assigned duties in a safe and clean environment.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, practices and philosophies. Works in accordance with all industry and regulatory compliance agencies, the Ontario Retirement Communities Association, The Retirement Homes Act 2010 and O. Reg 166/1, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Fire Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other pertinent legislated regulations/ standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to resident and operational Residence matters, exercises courtesy, good judgment and concern for the safety and well-being of residents and visitors. This includes adherence to the Social Media Policy.
Experience
  • Minimum Cook papers from a recognized college, Grade 12 or equivalent; Certified Red Seal Chef preferred.
  • Must have a current certificate in food handling from a local public health unit or other recently completed food handling training equivalent to a local public health program.
  • Must have experience in quantity food preparation and kitchen equipment.
  • Must have 3 years’ experience in the related food service industry.
  • The ability to understand and perform duties effectively, communicate any pertinent issues regarding residents and their care and work accurately and quickly.
  • Self-directed and team-oriented, with proficient organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be committed to multi-disciplinary teamwork and demonstrate an ability to work through collaboration, joint decision-making and integrated strategies.
  • Must have empathy for, and an understanding of the needs of our residents and their guests.
  • Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions, as well as mathematical calculations.
  • Must successfully complete a Police Records Check and disclose any convictions, charges, restraining orders, probation orders and/or warrants during the course of employment that affect in any way the clear Police Records Check.
  • Must provide a Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) document or Medical Note from a Physician stating free from infectious disease.
