Job summary

Atria Senior Living, Inc. is seeking a reliable cook to prepare and cook meals in the community, ensuring all dishes are prepared and presented to the company’s standards. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and Executive Director to keep residents satisfied with dining programs.

You will maintain kitchen cleanliness, follow safety protocols, and assist with special events and banquets. A minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in hospitality or healthcare cooking is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • English reading and writing, effective communication with residents and staff.
  • 1–3 years of cook experience in hospitality or healthcare.
  • Provincial food handlers permit as required by law.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and production guides.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, preparation, cooking and service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals in the community according to Atria Retirement standards.
  • Collaborate with Executive Chef and Executive Director to satisfy residents’ dining needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and storage areas at all times.
  • Open and/or close the kitchen and adhere to cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure proper food receipt, storage, and preparation per company standards.
  • Estimate daily/weekly food and supply needs and communicate with supervisors.
  • Prepare snacks and beverages for residents and assist with events and banquets.
  • Document temperatures and monitor refrigeration and freezer temperatures.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment in a sanitary manner.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the preparation and cooking of food in the community. Ensure that all meals are prepared and presented according to Atria Retirement's standards.

  • Work closely with the Executive Chef and/or Executive Director to keep residents satisfied with food and dining programs.
  • Maintain kitchen and food storage and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times.
  • Responsible for the opening and/or closing of the kitchen.
  • Adhere to cleaning schedules as assigned.
  • Ensure that all food is received, stored, and prepared according to company standards.
  • Estimate daily or weekly needs of food and supplies and communicate needs to Executive Chef/Sous Chef.
  • Participate in preparing and cooking meals according to established recipes and approved menus.
  • Document temperatures of food prior to service, refrigeration and freezer temperatures.
  • Prepare and ensure snacks and beverages are available to residents at all times.
  • Keep kitchen floors clean (sweeps and mops) and trash emptied.
  • Assist with the transportation and storage of food and supplies.
  • Adhere to standard food safety practices.
  • Assist with preparation and execution of special events, banquets, and theme meals.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Attend pre-meal stand up in kitchen prior to meal service.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Communicate effectively in English with employees and residents, as well as read and write English.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience as a cook in a hospitality or healthcare environment.
  • Food handlers permit as required by provincial law and/or Company standards.
  • Able to read and follow recipes and printed production guides, cleaning schedules, and logs.
  • Knowledge of food handling, preparation, cooking and service.
