Job summary

Marwood International is seeking a Sr Controls Technician to support automation and control systems in a heavy manufacturing setting in Tillsonburg, ON. The role involves developing control interfaces, programming PLCs, HMIs, and robots, and collaborating with the automation team.

You will contribute to R&D projects, design new automated work cells, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure project delivery meets quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent and C of Q.
  • Post-secondary education in electronics or programming.
  • 7+ years experience with working knowledge of press/die processes.
  • Knowledge of Siemens TIZ Portal and Omron Sysmac Studio.
  • Programming experience and strong problem solving abilities.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop systems and interfaces to control complex motions.
  • Learn and apply LabVIEW and C++ visual software and PLC programming.
  • Work as a team with automation team.
  • Data collection and management.
  • Support R&D projects.
  • Design and integrate new automated work cells.
  • Build, troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMIs, press controls and robotic systems.
  • Troubleshoot I/O logic circuits and devices, including sensors and hydraulic systems.
  • Write advanced PLC/robot programs and modify as needed.
  • Ensure on-time delivery within budget and quality standards.
  • Coordinate activities of apprentices, helpers and contractors.

Controls Technician - Sr

Location: Tillsonburg, ON

Industry: Automotive Manufacturing - Tier 1 OEM Supplier

Shift: Days Mon - Thurs (6a - 4p)

Responsibilities:
  • Develop systems and interfaces to control complex motions

  • Design and integrate new automated work cells
  • Build, service, maintain, repair, install and test new or existing common controls and sensor including PLCs, HMIs, press controls and robotic systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair I/O logic circuits and devices, including mechanical, infrared, laser and inductive sensors, hydraulic systems
  • Build, troubleshoot and repair electrical panels utilizing relay and programmable logic circuitry
  • Write advanced programs for PLC logic and/or robot controllers and make modifications as the process requires
  • Ensure that the delivery on all projects is to the appropriate levels of quality, engineering level, on time and within budget
  • Carry out preventative maintenance activities
  • Coordinate activities apprentices, helpers and assigned contractors
  • Perform related mechanical/electrical duties as required
  • Assist with the preparation of quotations and job costing
  • Prepare and maintain applicable documentation
  • Electrical drawings, procedures, maintenance logs
  • Able to complete hands on work requiring heavy lifting
  • Support and participate in all continuous improvement projects
  • Liaison with internal and external customers
  • Other duties as required
Key Requirements:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent and C of Q
  • Post-secondary education in an electronics/programming related field
  • 7+ years experience with working knowledge of press/die processes
