Job Overview

We are looking for a specialist to work with the customer and ATS Industrial Automation Inc. Nuclear Engineering team to develop, test, and implement system solutions that meet the customer's process requirements. The role involves direct responsibility for controls software systems with support for controls hardware and mechanical design. The position may require prolonged assignments at site facilities (potentially for 18 months) and extended shifts.

Major Duties
  • Work with the customer and ATS Nuclear Engineering team to develop, test, and implement system solutions that meet process requirements, including prototype machines or systems.
  • Directly responsible for controls software systems, providing input and support for controls hardware and mechanical design.
  • Perform up to 12.5‑hour shifts on a 4 on, 4 off basis for MCR; 5x10 hours per week at the training facility, with potential time at ATS in Cambridge between deployments.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Accountable for system or tooling testing, execution of testing, and preparation of test reports.
  • Learn a customer process and become a local expert to support the MCR project execution.
  • Provide input and technical support to the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement construction team.
  • Assist maintenance crews with resolution of issues related to maintenance and testing of nuclear service tools.
  • Train personnel on operation of specialized nuclear service tools.
  • Set up controls, computer systems, and cabling for tool testing and troubleshooting operations.
  • Prepare recovery or troubleshooting plans when work deviates from the plan.
  • Identify risks and contribute to technical decision‑making; interact with the customer on technical and logistical issues while representing ATS professionally.
  • Develop expert-level understanding of nuclear execution project processes and advise on interfacing between digital and physical equipment.
  • Generate effective shift communications, including shift logs, event reports, data analysis, and turnovers with sound technical writing.
  • Take ownership of project success and contribute to production efficiency improvements or cost reduction.
  • Ensure that all business activities meet the highest ethical standards and comply with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Coordinate and execute project deliverables on schedule and budget.
  • Communicate schedule updates and progress on tasks to the Manager, Nuclear Service and the Project Manager.
  • Assist with continuous systems design improvements on all nuclear tooling and processes.
Qualifications
Education
  • Post‑secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent specializing in mechanical, electrical, systems or computer engineering.
Experience & Skills
  • Strong programming, mechanical, and electrical problem‑solving skills.
  • Understanding of SCADA, Siemens S7 PLC control systems and machine operation; hands‑on experience desirable.
  • Self‑starter capable of working independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience in maintenance of CANDU reactors and practical knowledge of nuclear service tooling.
  • Specific experience with assembly and testing of nuclear service tooling.
  • Working knowledge of the Quality Systems, codes and standards associated with nuclear maintenance (CSA N285, CSA Z299, CSA N299) required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project engineering and/or project management experience is an asset.
Other Requirements
  • Willingness and ability to work as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) and in radioactive environments, including nuclear site work.
  • Willingness and ability to work at Bruce Power facilities in Kincardine and Tiverton and on a variety of work shifts, including night shifts.
  • Must be able to obtain Bruce Power, OPG and/or CNL security clearances to perform short‑term assignments at CNSC‑licensed sites on an “as‑required” basis, with occasional temporary headquarters work.
