Job summary

IFG - International Financial Group seeks an experienced Controller for a six-month contract in Toronto. This hands-on, leadership-focused role requires a CPA and strong operational accounting and financial reporting in manufacturing.

You will lead month-end and year-end close, supervise the accounting team, coordinate external audits, strengthen internal controls, and support continuous improvements across processes and ERP initiatives.

Qualifications

• CPA designation is required.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Experience in Controller/Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager roles.
• Strong technical accounting skills (journal entries, reconciliations, GL).
• Experience leading an accounting team.
• Manufacturing industry experience preferred (multi-entity/complex).
• Experience with ERP implementations or finance process improvements is a plus.

Responsibilities

Our client, an established manufacturing organization with Canadian and international operations, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their finance team on an initial six-month contract, with potential for extension.

This is a hands-on, leadership-focused role suited to a CPA-designated accounting professional with strong operational accounting and financial reporting experience in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will oversee month-end and year-end close activities, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, lead the accounting team, and support continuous improvements across finance processes.

Duration: 6 months, with potential for extension

Location: Toronto, ON

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Review and prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and general ledger adjustments.
• Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
• Manage, mentor, and support the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and timely completion of deliverables.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate external audit activities and provide supporting documentation and schedules as required.
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
• Partner with operational and finance stakeholders to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.
• Support ERP system enhancements, implementations, or other finance transformation initiatives as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• CPA designation is required.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including significant hands-on month-end and year-end close responsibilities.
• Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting role.
• Strong technical accounting skills, including journal entries, reconciliations, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation.
• Proven experience leading, supervising, or managing an accounting team.
• Manufacturing industry experience is strongly preferred, particularly in a multi-entity or operationally complex environment.
• Experience with ERP implementations, system upgrades, or finance process improvement projects is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance and operational teams.
