Job description

Vacancy: Existing Vacancy

This Controller role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, solving complex financial and operational challenges, and supporting multiple business entities within a project-based industry. The right person will recognize this opportunity as a natural next step if they have experience in construction, project accounting, multi-entity environments, or acquisition-driven organizations.

Why This Role

This role offers the opportunity to play a key leadership role within a growing organization, gain exposure to acquisitions and integration activities, and influence the future development of the accounting function. Unlike many traditional Controller positions, this opportunity combines hands‑on financial leadership with strategic involvement in business growth, operational improvements, and team development.

The Role: Controller

In this role, you will spend most of your time overseeing financial reporting, consolidations, job‑cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements across multiple business entities. You will work closely with executive leadership, operations teams, project managers, and accounting staff to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and meaningful business insights.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Preparing consolidated financial statements, WIP schedules, job‑cost reporting, and margin analysis
  • Supporting acquisition due diligence, integration activities, and purchase accounting
  • Leading and developing accounting team members through training, mentorship, and succession planning
  • Strengthening internal controls across accounting, payroll, procurement, and project operations
  • Driving ERP and process improvement initiatives to support scalability and growth
  • Partnering with leadership on strategic planning, capital allocation, and business expansion initiatives
  • Providing financial insights that support project selection, bidding strategies, profitability analysis, and resource planning
What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience leading accounting teams and developing staff
  • Strong financial reporting and consolidation experience
  • Expertise in job‑cost accounting, WIP reporting, and project‑based accounting environments
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, integration activities, or multi‑entity organizations
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • ERP system experience; exposure to construction ERP platforms such as Jonas is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills
