Job description

Our client is a reputable, long-standing Canadian firm operating in the ICI environment with a track record spanning more than three decades. Known for delivering complex projects with discipline and integrity, they have established themselves as a trusted name in their sector. As the business continues to grow, they are investing in their finance function and looking for a Controller who can lead with both technical precision and strategic partnership. This is a high-visibility role with direct access to senior leadership, offering the right candidate a genuine opportunity to shape financial operations, develop a team, and influence business outcomes at the project and organizational level.

What our client has to offer:

  • Compensation ranging from $120,000 - $130,000
  • Annual bonus
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and wellness coverage including a Health Spending Account
  • Hybrid schedule with flexibility built in
  • A collaborative leadership culture where finance has a real seat at the table

Responsibilities:

  • Own the full financial reporting cycle - monthly and quarterly close, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and project-level work in progress
  • Ensure project financials are accurate and current, including cost tracking, billing milestones, holdbacks, and scope changes
  • Maintain disciplined forecasting practices at both the project and organizational level, keeping leadership informed and ahead of risk
  • Serve as a true business partner to operational leaders - translating financial data into decisions that protect margin and drive profitability
  • Oversee transactional finance functions including payables, receivables, payroll, and cash management within a strong internal control environment
  • Connect the forward-looking pipeline - bids, backlog, and new awards - to the annual budget and rolling forecast process
  • Take ownership of the ERP environment, driving standardization, automation, and meaningful reporting across the platform
  • Build and develop the finance team through clear expectations, regular feedback, and a culture of accountability and growth
  • Contribute to leadership operating rhythms by ensuring financial scorecards and performance metrics reflect what the business actually needs to track

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience in a project-based or contract-driven industry
  • Strong technical foundation in job costing, percentage of completion accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Familiarity with progress billing structures, subcontractor management, and compliance requirements typical of long-cycle project environments
  • Advanced Excel capability and hands-on ERP experience; ability to optimize systems and build reporting infrastructure from the ground up
