Job summary

Aplin seeks a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function across multiple entities in a dynamic, project-based environment. You will own the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting and close processes, while supporting operational decision-making.

Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee payroll, AP, and administrative functions, and partner with operations on maintenance and greenfield projects.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation or equivalent required.
  • Hands-on Controller or senior accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition in construction/project environments.
  • Experience with job costing, multi-entity structures and inventory accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting cycle across multiple entities and deliver timely financial statements.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable, and reception/administrative support functions.
  • Support job costing processes and project performance reporting.
  • Apply revenue recognition methods suitable for construction projects (fixed price/cost-plus).
  • Monitor inventory controls and provide insights on equipment utilization and efficiency.

We are partnering with a privately owned, growing organization to recruit ahands-on Controllerwho thrives in a dynamic, multi-entity environment. This is a key leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being close to the numbers while also providing oversight across core administrative functions.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will take ownership of the full accounting cycle, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting while supporting operational decision-making. This role requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a business that blends project-based work, service delivery, and light assembly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and overseefull-cycle financial statementsacross multiple entities
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Provide oversight of:
    • Payroll (including acting as backup when required)
    • Accounts Payable
    • Reception / administrative support functions
  • Supportjob costing processes, including analysis and reporting on project performance
  • Apply appropriate revenue recognition methodologies, particularly in a construction/project environment (fixed price and cost-plus contracts)
  • Monitor and report oninventoryand related controls
  • Provide insight intoequipment utilization and efficiencywithin a service-oriented business
  • Strengthen internal controls and contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and systems
  • Partner with operations to support bothmaintenance and greenfield projects
Qualifications & Experience
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in ahands-on Controller or senior accounting role
  • Background in construction, project-based, or similar industries, with strong understanding of revenue recognition
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Job costing
    • Multi-entity structures
    • Inventory accounting
  • Exposure toservice-based operations, including equipment utilization metrics
  • Strong systems experience, includingmid-market (Tier 2) ERP systems
  • Comfortable operating in an environment that requires both strategic thinking and day-to-day execution
