Location: Metro Vancouver, BC (Hybrid / On-Site)
Employer: Confidential Premier Industrial Equipment Solutions Group
Compensation: $125,000 – $145,000 Base Salary + Annual Performance Bonus + 100% CPABC Dues & PD
About the Organization
We are an established, multi-location equipment solutions provider serving commercial contractors, civil infrastructure developments, and industrial clients across the Lower Mainland. Operating in a dynamic, high-growth sector, our corporate group includes operational entities and property holding companies.
As part of our commitment to operational excellence, we are executing a comprehensive modernization of our financial infrastructure. We are seeking an ambitious, hands-on Designated CPA to lead our finance function, vet and execute our cloud ERP transformation, establish best-in-class internal controls, and oversee financial operations and branch HR administration across the organization.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Business Owner, the Financial Controller will take full ownership of financial operations, multi-branch reporting, systems modernization, and corporate risk governance. You will serve as the strategic financial leader bridging daily operational accounting with high-level corporate group wealth, property, and tax administration.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Controls, Governance & Risk Management
- Control Framework Overhaul: Establish, audit, and enforce robust internal control frameworks, transaction authorization limits, and dual-authorization banking protocols to protect corporate assets.
- Account Reconciliation Integrity: Reconcile balance sheet accounts, clean up sub-ledger discrepancies, and ensure absolute integrity across all general ledger accounts.
- Cloud ERP Migration: Lead and execute the general ledger migration from legacy desktop software (Sage 300 / Accpac or similar) to QuickBooks Online Advanced, optimizing system integration and data integrity.
2. External Advisory Transition & CRA Tax Governance
- External CPA Advisory Intake: Lead the operational intake and ongoing relationship management with our incoming CPA firm for annual financial reviews and corporate tax strategy.
- Capital & Tax Recovery: Manage corporate tax (T2/T3/GST/PST) compliance.
3. Multi-Branch Operations, Union Payroll, HR & Portfolio Oversight
- Multi-Branch Financials: Generate accurate monthly Location & Class P&Ls across Lower Mainland operational branches, including job-costing margins.
- Corporate Group Management: Oversee intercompany accounting, due to/from balances, shareholder loans, and financial reporting across operating companies, holding entities, and associated structures.
- Union Payroll Compliance: Oversee union payroll processing, ensuring execution of collective agreement terms, Union Pension Fund remittances, WorkSafeBC filings, and Employer Health Tax (EHT).
- Branch HR Administration: Manage day-to-day HR support for branch staff, including vacation scheduling, seniority list maintenance, and resolving payroll-related inquiries.
Cultural Fit & Leadership Style
- Uncompromising Integrity: Demonstrates absolute ethical standards through every aspect of financial management. Delivers clean, transparent, and precise work while actively establishing and enforcing sound governance, internal controls, and total financial accountability across the entire organization.
- Grounded & Candid Communicator: Possesses the confidence and candor to provide the Business Owner with direct, unvarnished financial insights, balanced with diplomacy and professional respect.
- Supportive Peer-Level Guide: Acts as a constructive mentor to legacy accounting staff, guiding process improvements with patience and clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) rather than rigid, top-down enforcement.
- Problem-Solver Mindset: Thrives in unstructured or transitional environments, taking pride in replacing legacy workarounds with clean, automated systems and bulletproof internal controls.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Professional Designation: Active CPA designation in good standing with CPABC required (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA)
- Formal Education: Minimum Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) or Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting or Finance.
- Transformation Experience: Demonstrated track record leading software migrations away from legacy desktop environments to modern cloud ERPs and establishing internal controls.
- Industry Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial leadership, ideally within equipment rentals, commercial construction, industrial logistics, or heavy asset sectors.
- Group Portfolio Knowledge: Direct experience with multi-entity corporate structures (OpCo/HoldCo), intercompany accounting, union payroll environments, and operational HR administration.
What We Offer
- Competitive Base Salary: $125,000 - $145,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and systems transformation background.
- Performance Incentive: Annual discretionary performance bonus based on mutually agreed-upon financial, operational, and strategic KPIs.
- Professional Support: 100% employer-funded CPABC annual membership dues and mandatory Professional Development (PD) coverage.
- Comprehensive Benefits: Extended Health, Dental, and Vision coverage.
