Job summary

Talent Compass is seeking an experienced Controller in Edmonton, Alberta to lead the accounting function for a property management client. You will build systems, controls and a high-performing team to deliver accurate financial reporting and strategic insights.

You will oversee month-end close, budgeting, and reporting while partnering with leadership to drive performance. Hybrid work (2–3 days in office) and a salary up to CAD 130k are offered, plus benefits and annual bonus.

Qualifications

• CPA designation required for the role.
• Minimum 5+ years progressive accounting experience.
• Strong GST, Canadian payroll and year-end knowledge.
• Advanced Excel; comfortable with automation and AI tools.
• Proven track record building processes and controls.
• Owner mentality: proactive, detail-oriented, deadline-driven.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Eligible to work in Canada.

Our client is engaged in premier asset property management, acquisition, leasing, and development. Our client is seeking a hands-on leader who builds the systems, controls and team behind our numbers. You will be responsible for overseeing the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening processes and controls, and providing financial information to support business decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day to day accounting and financial operations
• Lead month end and year end close processes and ensure timely financial reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reports
• Develop and improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support business decisions
• Work closely with leadership and operational teams to monitor financial performance

Qualifications:

• CPA designation
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong working knowledge of GST, Canadian payroll and year-end
• Advanced Excel. Comfortable with automation and eager to use AI tools
• A track record of building processes and controls, not just following them
• Owner mentality: proactive, detail-oriented, and dependable on deadlines
• Good written and verbal English
• Legal to work in Canada
