What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with ASPE for NPOs.
  • Overseeing month-end and year-end closing, reconciliations, and consolidation of financials.
  • Serving as the primary liaison for external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensuring compliance with funding agreements, grant requirements, and CRA regulations.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
  • Leading financial forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Providing financial insights to senior leadership, supporting mission-driven decision-making.
  • Guiding and mentoring the finance team, ensuring efficiency and professional development.
  • Reviewing monthly financial packages (e.g. Detailed Income Statements, Executive Financial Package, etc.) prepared by Intermediate Accountant to ensure the accuracy before final review of the Director of Finance & Controller and draft memos for internal distribution.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Acting as the primary administrator for accounting and reporting systems, including but not limited to Sage, WESA, and Goodwill Exchange.
  • Supporting and acting as back-up to the Data Warehouse Architect and having the ability to understand and manage basic Data Warehouse functions.
  • Supporting the development of various data & analytics products for the Executive and Board level as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table:

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA), or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in nonprofits.
  • Expertise in fund accounting, grant compliance, and financial controls.
  • Related post-secondary education in accounting or business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. as well as previous experience using SAGE or similar accounting software
  • Proficiency in using data mining and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Ability to plan and organize work with multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to details, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles, practices and applications for non-profit entities
  • Strong knowledge of effective and efficient internal controls.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential matters and ensure confidentiality of information and records.
  • Proactive and dedicated work ethic, with the desire to continuously learn and improve.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, and decision-making abilities as well as proactive problem resolution skills.
