  • Manage month‑end close activities, including balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, bank reporting, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and develop production, statistical, and financial reporting tools in Excel.
  • Evaluate and implement automation tools, system capabilities, and standardized workflows to reduce manual effort, eliminate duplication, strengthen controls, and improve the speed and accuracy of financial processes and reporting.
  • Serve as the Controller’s trusted right‑hand partner by anticipating needs, helping manage priorities, resolving issues, supporting key decisions, and providing reliable leadership coverage when required.
  • Support annual audits, budgets, forecasts, strategic initiatives, and special projects in close partnership with the Regional Controller.
  • Prepare municipal invoices, revenue‑share schedules, HST filings, Statistics Canada reports, and other required financial reports.
  • Oversee vendor invoice processing, customer collections, and related accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Act as a trusted finance business partner to operational leaders by providing practical financial insight, challenging assumptions, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and business performance.
  • Spend regular time in the field at assigned operating sites to learn the business, understand operational processes and cost drivers, and connect financial results to day‑to‑day activities.
  • Build strong relationships with site leaders and frontline teams, using field observations and operational knowledge to improve forecasts, reporting, controls, and decision‑making.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately five to seven finance employees by setting expectations, delegating work, monitoring performance, and providing regular feedback and training.
  • Build effective working relationships with employees, vendors, clients, and municipal contacts.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis and reports, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Experience
  • CPA designation and Bachelor’s in business or finance.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive accounting experience in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership centric role.

  • Strong knowledge of month‑end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and audit support.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with accounting software; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using automation, reporting, workflow, or data tools to simplify finance processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the quality of business information.
  • Experience with RTA Fleet Management Software, Navusoft, or Materials Manager is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong communication, relationship‑building, and business‑partnering skills, with the curiosity and operational mindset to learn the business and influence decisions across all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and follow through on commitments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to assigned operating sites and spend time in field environments as part of learning and supporting the business.
